The Mamelodi Sundowns Under-17 side has been knocked out in the first round of the Future Champions international tournament in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

The Sundowns youngsters were held to a 1-1 draw by Universidad de Chile, which followed their 1-0 defeat in their opener on Monday against Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro.

It means Sundowns finish second in Group A, but only the top team in each pool advances to the semifinals.

Nicolas Palma gave Universidad the lead against the Chloorkop side, but Karabo Litabe hit back to earn a point for the South Africans.

Sundowns are representing Mzansi at the tournament, which also features Brazilian sides Vasco da Gama, Cruzeiro and Corinthians, and international entrants Barcelona (Spain), Everton (England), Atletico Peñarol (Uruguay), Club America (Mexico), DC United (USA) and Paris Saint-Germain (France).

Belo Horizonte will be a host city for the 2014 Fifa World Cup and are hosting the Future Champions tournament this year, after a successful event in Gauteng at the start of 2010 that was won by Chinese side Shandong Luneng.
