Young Brazilians downed in tight clash

The Mamelodi Sundowns Under-17 side lost 1-0 to Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro in their opening Group A match at the Future Champions tournament in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Atletico’s goal was scored by striker Marcos Vinicius and proved decisive in a tight encounter between the teams.
 
Sundowns are representing South Africa at the tournament, which also features Brazilian sides Vasco da Gama, Cruzeiro and Corinthians, and international entrants Barcelona (Spain), Everton (England), Atletico Peñarol (Uruguay), Universidad de Chile (Chile), Club America (Mexico), DC United (USA) and Paris Saint-Germain (France).
 
Sundowns were drawn in their pool along with Atletico and Universidad. Only the top team in each pool advances to the semi-finals, with the remainder of the tournament played in a knockout format.
 
Belo Horizonte will be a host city for the 2014 Fifa World Cup and are hosting the Future Champions tournament this year, after a successful event in Gauteng at the start of 2010 that was won by Chinese side Shandong Luneng.
